If you are anything like me, maintenance lights make me crazy when they come on, and the tire pressure light is no exception. Weather does affect the pressure in your tires as it expands or reduces the size of the oxygen or nitrogen molecules. These changes will affect your tire pressure and will alert the sensor advising you to check the pressure in your tires.
According to AccuWeather,
As you drive your car, friction causes the tires to heat up, increasing the
pressure within the tire. Running on under-inflated tires will negatively affect gas
mileage and will substantially increase tire wear, as well as resulting in poor,
dangerous handling. Increased friction created while driving on underinflated
tires will cause tires to overheat and increase the risk of a blowout.
In the Triangle area, the weather has fluctuated this winter from 70 degrees to freezing temperatures, and sometimes in just a single week. With all of this change, you should keep a check on your car’s tire pressure. If you do not know how to check the pressure in your car, watch our Check the Tire Pressure video and refer to the car manual on the recommended tire pressure in summer and winter.
