Subaru has always been committed to supporting its local communities, but did you know about their ‘50 Cars for 50 Years’ campaign? This campaign is a commitment made to Meals on Wheels to provide them with fuel efficient, versatile vehicles to deliver meals to our vulnerable seniors[1]. This donation is in celebration of Subaru’s 50th anniversary in the United States. Each Meals on Wheels program will receive a 2018 Subaru Outback with a co-branded wrap with Meals on Wheels America and ‘Subaru Loves to Help’ logos.
Over the past nine years, Subaru has contributed more than $12 million to Meals on Wheels America through their ‘Share the Love’ program[2]. This equateds to 1.7 meals, friendly visits, and safety checks for our seniors across many communities nationwide. Ellie Hollander, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels America, was quoted saying, “This generous vehicle donation will have an immediate and indelible impact on local Meals on Wheels programs and the seniors they serve – many of whom live in rural, remote and difficult to reach places”[3].
Subaru will donate a Subaru Outback to programs in 39 different states, 12 of which will receive two vehicles for two different communities. North Carolina is among the 12 states that will receive two Outbacks. Senior Services, Inc. in Winston Salem, NC will be a recipient of one of the vehicles and the other North Carolina recipient is right here in Durham: Meals on Wheels of Durham, Inc[4].
Subaru continues to stay committed to its philosophy of supporting local communities. These vehicle donations are said to be able to help deliver an extra 53,000 meals across the 39 states represented, which equates to about 3,700 more seniors who need Meals on Wheels America’s services.
