Throwback Thursday: Remember the Subaru Legacy GT?

Let's take it way, way back.

A Legacy... Turbocharged?

Subaru fans might remember a subtle, surprising Subaru Legacy that roamed the streets of Chapel Hill back around the early 2000s. The Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT was a fourth-gen option available as both a sedan and a wagon, that was a legend in its own right: a stunning midsize car that took quite a few leaves from the book of the classic WRX.

The Subaru Legacy GT Limited offered a 265 horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, standard AWD, and a 0-60 sprint time of about 5.5 seconds or less. It gave drivers the classic stick-shift look and feel for true sport performance, and delivered a lot of the personality of the WRX or the STi line, with a bit more of a mature exterior.

There was also a super-limited-edition Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B that was only available for a handful of years--and only available in a handful of models, Subaru only produced a few hundred--and that gave the classic GT a sporty makeover. It offered the same engine and horsepower as its base 2.5GT model, but got a retuned suspension, a Torsen limited-slip differential, and a six-speed manual. It was a gorgeous and surprisingly practical alternative to a compact WRX.

Nostalgia is Nice. Newer is Better

But, if you look at the spartan-esque cabin of the 2011 Legacy GT's interior, and realize that you're still pretty invested in the shiny new features and materials of a new 2018 car, check out new inventory at Performance Subaru near Chapel Hill to see new 2018 Legacy sedans for sale.

The newest Legacy may not have a turbo or a hood scoop, but you'll still get standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, plenty of horsepower from an available six-cylinder engine, and some nicer, modern amenities.

But, if nostalgia wins the day, contact our team so we can help you track down a Legacy GT as your next iconic daily driver.
