Performance Subaru-Chapel Hill Product Specialist David House provides helpful information to anyone who may need help with opening the hood of their Subaru Outback. Knowing how to open the hood of your car is extremely important.  You might need to need to add a little extra washer fluid or even check your oil in between your service visits.

You must be familiar with your vehicle and read through your owner’s manual. A quick reference guide or manual can help you locate your hatch release lever and open the hood of your Subaru successfully. You will just need to follow the following steps.

1.       To locate the hood release lever, you must open the driver’s door and look to the left, on the bottom of the dash, under the steering column. The latch release generally has a picture of the hood open on it.

2.       Pull the release towards you.

3.       Release the secondary hood release by looking for the Subaru emblem on the front grill. There will be a lever between the front grill and the hood above the emblem. You will want to move that lever towards the left.

4.       Lift up the hood.

Quick Tip: Remember to have the engine cool off before reaching your hand inside to prevent injury to yourself.
